Shake things Up

November 30, 2009

Lets shake things up.

The time is fast approaching…

On November 2, 2010; voters in the United States will elect members of the 112th United States Congress, including all 440 members of the United States House of Representatives (435 voting members and 5 non-voting delegates) and one-third of the United States Senate (Class 3 senators: 34 out of 100 senators). In addition, at least two special elections will be held held for unexpired U.S. Senate terms in Delaware and Illinois.

In Delaware, voters will elect someone to fill the unexpired portion of the term ending January 3, 2015. Joe Biden was originally elected to serve this term, but resigned effective January 15, 2009, as a result of his being elected Vice President of the United States.

In Illinois, former governor Rod Blagojevich appointed Roland Burris to replace Barack Obama who resigned his seat after being elected President of the United States. An election will be held in Illinois for the last two years of the term ending January 3, 2011. Under current Illinois law, the special election will be held the same day as the regular election for the term beginning January 3, 2011.

Before the General election of 2008, congress had an approval rating below 20%, yet close to 400 of the 440 members of the United States House of Representatives kept their jobs. That means 90% of congress stayed intact, with a 20% approval rating.

I ask This. If your company was only happy with 20% of the work you did, but you had a 90% chance of not being fired, would you change your work habits? Why would congress listen to the voters? Why not pass the trillion dollar bailout? Why not continue to spend the hard earned money of their constituents? If there are no repercussions for their actions. Why not continue to take money out of our pockets to put it in the hands of their rich friends? Why stop the corruption in Washington D.C.? The only thing that can controls the Government is the people.

Our founding fathers believed that When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

So Lets Shake Things Up. instead of bringing back 90% of congress lets only bring back 10%. Let us tell the people we elect to replace those seats that we will fire them too if they dont listen to us, the government needs to start working for us again. This isn’t a party thing not a liberal vs. conservative thing, democrat vs. republican, this is the united states vs. corruption, lets say no to back door deals, late night votes, and closed door negotiations. Lets bring the power of the internet to use, this is not a grassroots movement, this is a cyberspace movement, powered by the generation that built companies like Google, MySpace, and FaceBook. Lets show them that we can do it better.
